TV presenter Jimmy Kimmel could soon mark the end of his decades-long career on late-night television — leaving fans with one big question: Where will he retire to when the cameras stop rolling?
Kimmel’s on-air career has made plenty of headlines over the past year, and now the comedian is reportedly gearing up to host “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to leave. when his current contract expires.
“His contract will not be renewed,” a source told the medium.
That would mean the show will end in May 2027, more than 24 years after Kimmel first took his place behind the late-night desk.
However, these reports were denied by ABC.
“This information is inaccurate – all reports regarding the future of the show are purely speculative at this time,” an ABC Entertainment spokesperson told The Hill.
The potential conclusion of Kimmel’s tenure comes after a particularly turbulent time for the host.
In September 2025, Kimmel made an emotional return to his popular show, just days after being suspended “indefinitely” by ABC for controversial comments following the murder of a conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
At the time, Kimmel was overcome with emotion as he took the stage in front of a live audience at his show’s Los Angeles studio and received a long standing ovation.
The TV host addressed his suspension in his opening monologue, choking back tears as he stressed that he never intended to “take the murder of a young man lightly.”
But when Kimmel actually steps away from the cameras, his real-life sanctuary tells a much quieter story — one rooted in peace, privacy and distance from the Hollywood spotlight.
Kimmel lives on a sprawling estate in Hermosa Beach, California, where he and his wife, Molly McNearneythe head writer and executive producer of his show, built a custom home for her family.
The apartment sits on two properties that Kimmel purchased in 2017 for a total of $8 million. They are about half a hectare in total.
Images of the property taken in 2023 showed construction nearing completion and offered a glimpse of the sprawling residence and its stunning views over the sea.
The two-story home also features a large swimming pool and offers Kimmel and his family an idyllic coastal retreat.
When Kimmel purchased the property, the existing residence had four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It appears to have been significantly expanded as part of the custom build.
Kimmel previously owned a home in the Hollywood Hills, which he sold in 2014. He is said to own another property near the famous Chateau Marmont Hotel, which he reportedly purchased in 2010 for $1.1 million.
That same year, Kimmel placed the apartment in a trust, and it was later reported that he had made the apartment available to his sister-in-law. Kelly McNearney.
But whenever the comedian leaves the walls of his private coastal retreat, he continues to find himself at the center of controversy.
Most recently President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump On social media, she called on ABC to take a stand and remove Kimmel from the show after she made a joke about Melania being an “expectant widow.” Kimmel made the joke two days before shots were fired at the White House correspondents’ dinner.
During the segment, Kimmel posed as the dinner’s host and teased, “Of course our first lady, Melania, is here.”
He then called her “beautiful” before adding: “Mrs. Trump, you’re glowing like an expectant widow.”
The comedian also joked about Donald Trump’s age and health.
Kimmel’s jokes about the Trumps came two days before a gunman broke through a security perimeter and fired shots at the Washington Hilton on April 25 while the president and first lady were inside.
On April 27, the president took to social media to brand Kimmel’s jokes as “truly shocking” and “something far beyond the pale.”
He added: “Jimmy Kimmel should be fired by Disney and ABC immediately.”
Just a few hours later, Melania added to the discourse.
“His monologue about my family is not a comedy,” she wrote. “His words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness in America.”
The first lady then branded the comedian a “coward” who “should not have the opportunity to enter our homes every night to spread hate.” She added that he is “hiding behind ABC because he knows the broadcaster will continue to take cover to protect him.”
She ended her post with: “Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to take a stand.”
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt also addressed Kimmel’s jokes during a briefing.
“This kind of rhetoric about the president, the first lady and his supporters is completely crazy,” Leavitt said. “It’s unbelievable that the American people consume it night after night after night.”
Kimmel defended his jokes during his show on the evening of April 27.
“You know how sometimes you wake up in the morning and the First Lady makes a statement demanding that you be fired from your job. We’ve all been there, right?” Kimmel said in his opening monologue.
Kimmel said the remark was “obviously a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on their faces every time they are together.”
He added: “It was a very light joke about the fact that he is almost 80 and she is younger than me. It was in no way a call for assassination and they know it.”
Kimmel also argued that if Trump believed he should be fired for his comments, the president should consider comments Leavitt made just hours before dinner, when she told Fox News: “It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be entertaining. There’s going to be some shots fired tonight.”
The comedian acknowledged that the incident may have been “stressful” for the president and first lady, but argued that Melania should talk to her husband about limiting the use of derogatory language.
“Donald Trump is allowed to say whatever he wants to say, like you and me, like all of us, because under the First Amendment we as Americans have the right to free speech,” said Kimmel, while emphasizing that he is an advocate against gun violence.
“I’m sorry that you and the president and everyone in this room went through this on Saturday. I’m truly sorry,” he added. “Just because no one was killed doesn’t mean it wasn’t traumatic and scary, and we should come together and be the best.”
ABC has not yet commented on Kimmel and the Trumps’ comments. Realtor.com® has reached out to ABC and Kimmel for comment.
This isn’t the first time Kimmel has come under fire for his jokes.
In September 2025, Kimmel was suspended “indefinitely” by ABC after making several controversial statements following Kirk’s murder.
At the time, Kimmel made several references to the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA – who was fatally shot at an event at Utah Valley University – and Tyler Robinsonthe Utah man accused of killing Kirk.
During his Sept. 15 episode, Kimmel told viewers, “We hit new lows over the weekend as the MAGA gang desperately tried to portray this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them and did everything they could to make political points out of it.”
“Between the blame lay sadness.”
On September 16, he mentioned Kirk again, this time aiming for the right side.
“Many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk,” he said.
Following Kimmel’s remarks: Brendan CarrChairman of the Federal Communications Commission, heavily criticized the comedian while also issuing a warning to ABC’s parent company, Disney.
“This is a very, very serious problem for Disney right now. We can solve it the easy way or the hard way,” he said.
“Something needs to change here at Disney, but the individual licensed broadcasters that are taking over their content need to come forward now and say, you know, trash at the rate it’s being exposed in the future is not, in our opinion, something that meets the needs of our local communities.”
“There are calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think in this case you could certainly see an avenue for suspension,” he said.
Minutes after Carr made those comments, Nexstar Media Group Inc. announced it would stop airing the show on its 32 ABC affiliates.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments regarding Mr. Kirk’s death are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse.” Andrew AlfordPresident of Nexstar’s broadcast division said.
Shortly after Nexstar announced its decision, ABC, which has FCC-approved licenses for its local broadcast outlets, issued its own statement about the comedian.
A spokesman for the Disney-owned network said only: “‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ is suspended indefinitely.”
Trump praised the decision in a post shared on Truth Social.
“Great news for America: The controversial Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what needed to be done,” Trump wrote.
“Kimmel has ZERO talent and worse ratings than even (Stephen) Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are terrible too. Make it NBC!!!”
However, after a six-day suspension, Kimmel returned to the stage.
