“Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran has some thoughts on the reality TV personality Kylie Jenneris the years-long home design project.
When the 77-year-old real estate tycoon was asked by TMZ to comment on the 29-year-old makeup mogul’s construction project, which has been in the works since 2020, he gave a candid answer.
“It’s not worth it,” Corcoran said. “You should look at my house. It’s much nicer.”
Corcoran continued her advice, explaining, “You don’t enjoy the home if you pay too much attention to the design. When you finally get it, it’s like a display case and you don’t really live there.”
The entrepreneur emphasized that she was speaking from experience, adding that it was a lesson she had “learned over the years.”
Corcoran recently completed a major home renovation of her own, remodeling the $16 million Manhattan penthouse she purchased in October 2025.
On August 26, Corcoran published an Instagram post indicating that she was still preparing to unveil the full renovation.
In the months leading up to the project’s completion, she shared some behind-the-scenes progress updates and a look at some of her favorite details—from the original century-old tiles in the bathroom to the sky-high ceilings and wood-burning fireplace.
Fresh from renovating his home, Corcoran recommended spending some time in a new home to “get a feel for the space, then finally decorate and do it quickly.”
While Corcoran’s approach to renovation seems to prioritize speed over all else, she has previously spoken out about the sentimental value a dream home can have.
When she put her “dream” penthouse up for sale in 2025 – which quickly sold for $1.5 million more than expected and a final sale price of $13.5 million – Corcoran told the New York Times: “It’s easy to spend money when you’re building a lifelong dream. To me, real estate is emotional.”
Corcoran called the palatial Upper East Side penthouse home for a decade, investing an estimated $2 million to make it an ideal home for her family before making the difficult decision to move when her husband, Bill Higginswas no longer able to climb the stairs safely.
Like Corcoran, Jenner has also taken to social media to share the progress of her “gorgeous Italian dream home,” which she is building on a $15 million, 5-acre lot in Hidden Hills, California.
“I’m so excited. I feel like I’ve been working on this for so long and I’m just ready to finish it and move in,” Jenner admitted in a Sept. 6 vlog in which she took her followers to a design approval day.
Jenner shared a first look at some of the home’s newest features – some of which she saw for the first time.
The entrance to the property has been designed with an “unreal” reclaimed cobblestone driveway and lush landscaping Jim Hyattwho, according to Jenner, is known for his work at San Ysidro Ranch, a boutique resort in Montecito, California.
Your own piece of paradise was designed to “so to speak” copy the legendary location and recreate the same look with lavender and ancient olives.
Inside the apartment there are reclaimed wood floors, which will soon be combined with a neutral white plaster for the walls – a decision that Jenner made in real time in her vlog.
Reclaimed materials appear to be a theme throughout the project, as Jenner chose “an old fireplace” for the entryway and vintage tiles for a guest bathroom.
“At the moment it is the only bathroom that has tiles,” explained the mother of two. “I think it’s going to be very, very great.”
Fabulousness aside, this room isn’t even Jenner’s favorite bathroom on the property. A breathtaking stone room bears this title.
The kitchen seems to be on the rise, and the space is taking shape with custom furniture that will soon be stained.
A trip to the basement revealed more of the property’s Italian-inspired design as Jenner showed off the soaring arched hallways, doors and windows.
The outdoor area is also in the works, with plans for a rose garden.
“I just want to be a princess,” she joked.
A sports field is in the works, as is an ambitious outdoor dining project nestled in a tree-lined area of the backyard that will eventually have a pizza oven and host “dinner parties and birthdays.”
There’s even a cute nod to Jenner’s older sister in the backyard Kendallwho realized that she had to get rid of several young olive trees on one of her properties during construction work.
“She asked, ‘Does anyone want her?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely,'” Jenner recalls. “Not only are they so beautiful, they remind me of my sister every time I look at them.”
Jenner is no stranger to home renovations, having put her stamp on many properties over the years.
The star has an impressive real estate portfolio and currently has two homes on the market: an $18 million Hidden Hills home that served as her primary residence for years, and a $38.5 million brutalist concrete fortress in Holmby Hills.
She recently reflected on her habit of snapping up expensive properties, telling Who What Wear that she’s “changed” her mind about “living a huge life.”
“When I was younger, I was really excited and got the craziest house in Beverly Hills that I could find and I just went for it,” Jenner said. “I realized my life was getting too big and I said, ‘Yeah, whatever.'”
