Trying to drive traffic to your website is more difficult than ever.
As there is more and more content to compete with, it often feels like there is no one-size-fits-all approach that can get people to your site.
And in truth there are none!
But you can also take a combined approach, each with their own creative flair that’s sure to get you noticed.
Here I’ll show you different ways you can try to attract new customers to your website. Some you may have heard of, others are a bit more “creative” for start-ups looking to gain a foothold in the market.
Key insights
- Make it more user friendly: Make sure your website loads quickly, is easy to navigate, and provides a pleasant user experience, thereby optimizing both user satisfaction and search engine rankings.
- Build a lead magnet: Offer high-quality, free content like e-books or exclusive guides to attract visitors to your website, which will also help collect their email addresses for future interactions.
- Chat with the competition audience: Engage with people who interact with your competitors by connecting with them on social media and encouraging them to explore what your brand has to offer.
- Build your email list: Grow your email list by offering unique discounts and exclusive content to subscribers, making it an attractive proposition despite the general reluctance to reveal personal information.
As you already know, attracting customers to your website is crucial. Because how else are they going to move through the incredible purchase funnel you’ve created?
With that in mind, here are four different ways to do just that.
Make it more user friendly
First, you need to make sure your website is as user-friendly as possible. This may sound obvious, but you’d be amazed at how many websites I find load too slowly, contain pages with broken links, and aren’t well optimized for users.
Some marketers will tell you that you need to optimize for Google, but in reality you need to optimize for your users.
First of all, not all of your traffic comes from Google, so your website needs to be set up to accommodate users who find you through other means.
Second, optimizing for users is optimizing for Google! Sure, Google values certain keywords in certain places, but its main indicators are user experience, e.g. E.g. time spent on the site, users clicking on other pages from your home page, etc.
So the first thing you should do is a complete audit of your website, starting from your customer’s perspective. Click through from an ad, imagine you want to learn more or make a purchase, and record the experience.
Build your email list
Another way to ensure more people visit your website is to build an email list. This allows you to contact people when there is new content to consume, new products coming to market, or ongoing offer periods.
However, people aren’t going to sign up for your email list just because you tell them to. After all, many people are bombarded with emails every day, so adding another email sender to their list isn’t easy.
People are reluctant to reveal this information unless absolutely necessary and for good reason.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get them to do it. Benefit from unique discounts and incentives for registered customers, e.g. B. 15% off your first order or ongoing offers specific to email users.
You can also create a waitlist ahead of product launches, providing unique insights, behind-the-scenes insights, and updates that other customers who don’t have an email address don’t receive. This tactic has been extremely successful for other startup entrepreneurs, such as Alicia Scott, who turned her company into a billion-dollar company.
Build a lead magnet
Another way to incentivize website traffic is to give something away for free. It can be a digital e-book, a unique guide, or even a detailed study. Whatever it is, your content needs to be of the highest quality because you can then push it across your various platforms and advertising channels to get people to come and get something for free.
This action also ensures that you have more email addresses on your list, which helps with the point above, so it’s a win-win!
But let’s go back to my point about content quality. When creating free content, it’s tempting to rush it or just get something out there. Of course, something is better than nothing, but your lead magnet really should be your best work.
Put yourself in your potential customer’s shoes. You don’t expect it to be that good because it’s free. So if you blow them away with a fantastically useful resource, imagine how highly they will value your product or service.
“If this company gives me this for free, imagine what their paid product/service looks like!”
Chat with the competition’s audience
Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with your competitors’ audience. Of course, you can gain a lot of insight by tracking your competitors and seeing how they are gaining traffic and attention, but there is another tactic you can use.
Look at who is interacting with your competition, make a list, and start interacting with them directly, probably through social media. This will help promote your brand name and give your target audience an incentive to learn more about what you have to offer.
These are the people you want to visit your website. So why not go to them instead? If they like your product or service, they will surely follow you back to your website from there.
