If you’re reading this, you probably already know something about dropshipping, how it works, and the profits other people have made.
But one big question may still remain unanswered.
Will dropshipping work in 2025?
After all, the concept of dropshipping is no longer new. Now, with more dropshippers joining in every day, there is more competition than ever before, and some are quick to claim that “dropshipping is dying.”
But that’s not entirely true. Instead, you must be smart, calculated and motivated to succeed. Here I’ll show you that dropshipping will continue to be profitable in 2025 and how you can start today.
Do you have little time? Here are the key takeaways
- While dropshipping is certainly more saturated than it was a decade ago, it can still be extremely profitable for the right products, brands, and marketing.
- The key to a successful dropshipping business is choosing the right products and niches that meet several important criteria such as profit, ease of use, and audience size.
- Successful branding can help you stand out from others in your niche.
Dropshipping in 2025

It’s easy to understand why some people think dropshipping is dead in 2025. After all, more people are trying it than ever before.
Anecdotally, I was in Bali recently and I would say one in three people I met were dropshipping!
However, there is a reason why people keep trying. Here are some of the most notable dropshipping statistics you should know that illustrate why it is still a profitable venture.
- Dropshipping generates $85 billion in sales. That’s almost 23% of all online sales.
- Dropshipping stores with at least one social media account tend to generate 32% more sales.
- The dropshipping market is expected to be worth $372.47 billion in 2025.
- The U.S. e-commerce market share is expected to reach 19.4% in 2025.
How to start dropshipping

With that in mind, let’s look at the steps you need to take to start your dropshipping business.
Choose a business model
First, you need to decide which business model you want to choose. Do you want to go niche and choose a store that focuses on a very small but extremely loyal community? Do you want to try opening a general store that appeals to a larger audience but comes with more competition? Or do you follow the “one product store” approach?
Each option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is important to set a route and ensure that everything you do helps you achieve that goal.

Research your niche
Once you’ve decided on your niche, be it a very specific one or a broader one, it’s important to find out everything you can about it. This will help you understand what your competition is selling, what your target audience is searching for, where they shop and interact with brands online, and what potential vulnerabilities you could exploit for quick success.
Tools like TikTok, Instagram, Amazon Bestsellers and Google Trends are ideal for this. They help you understand what the competition is doing well and what you could do better than them, so you can create a much-needed differentiator, especially in a saturated market.
Another important factor to consider at this stage is profit margins and feasibility. If you can’t find a way to make a profit from your chosen niche, then it’s essentially a non-starter. You need to be confident that sales will initially at least cover your costs and can be scaled smoothly thanks to easy shipping.
As a dropshipping business, not managing inventory can seem great, but it also has some drawbacks. Especially when there are issues with shipping, this can have a significant impact on the perception of your brand as it can be difficult to resolve issues that are beyond your control.
Find a reliable supplier
First, you need to find a reliable supplier. I cannot emphasize enough how important this step is. So much so that once you get past this hurdle, everything else from that point on becomes significantly less impactful.
The most popular options include AliExpress, DSers, Zendrop, CJ Dropshipping and Spocket, but We also have a fantastic video training on this topic.
If you’re planning on dropshipping on Amazon, you need to be very careful about who you work with. Amazon has some pretty strict policies towards suppliers and wholesalers, so I highly recommend it Check out the list of verified candidates.
Once selected, take the time to order samples and note the product quality, delivery speed, and other important aspects of the customer experience.
Set up your online store
Once you’re happy with the provider you’ve chosen, it’s time to think about where you want to set up your online store.
The most popular options tend to be Shopify or Amazon, each of which comes with its own benefits.
Shopify is an excellent option because it offers many great eCommerce features, is easy to set up, and gives you control over your site design and branding.
However, getting people to find and buy from your brand is initially more difficult, especially compared to setting up on Amazon.
As you can imagine, setting up on Amazon means you automatically open yourself up to a much larger audience, which is very attractive to new dropshippers.
However, Amazon is also aware of the many benefits it offers you and that your choice is minimal due to their market dominance. Therefore, they often charge significant fees, monthly costs, and a percentage of sales.
Luckily for you, I’ve put together a list below of some great Shopify advice that will ensure you give yourself the best chance of success:
Sort out the boring parts
Okay, it might be a bit harsh to call them “the boring parts,” but I know that I would much rather work on the creative aspects of a brand than set policies for shipping, returns, and refunds.
However, these laws are all crucial to protect yourself in the event of problems, which can be quite complicated as a drop shipper.
You also need to consider other important aspects such as: B. basic liability insurance or whether you want to set up as an LLC or sole proprietor.
Luckily, you can learn a little more about it here: Sole proprietorship vs. LLC: Everything you need to know.
Optimize
Now that those pieces are out of the way, it’s time to optimize your website. This means writing compelling product descriptions that are SEO friendly and in line with what the consumer wants to see. Focus more on the benefits of your products rather than the features.
Does a consumer want to know that your vacuum cleaner has a powerful suction power of 26 kPa? No, probably not. Do you want to know that it has the power to suck up anything, even dog hair? Yes!
You should also focus on using other important user-focused features, such as high-quality images. This makes your brand appear more professional and your products become more valuable.
Finally, test different elements of urgency, such as: E.g. highlighting limited inventory and countdowns. Just be careful not to overdo it.
Launch marketing campaigns
Once all the groundwork is in place, it’s time to promote your brand to your target audience.
Build an email list for future discounts and new products by adding pop-ups to your website and social media promotions.
Use micro and macro influencers to promote your product and ensure you work with influencers specifically in your niche.
Tips and tricks for success

While it’s easy for almost anyone to start a dropshipping business in 2025, making it a success is another matter entirely. Here are a few tips and tricks I recommend to get your brand off to a good start and build sustainable long-term success.
Branding
When it comes to branding, it is absolutely crucial that you invest time and effort early on. Use sites like Fiverr to create a high-quality logo, make sure you have a consistent color palette, and don’t be afraid to delve into the story of how your brand came to be and what it’s meant to represent.
Consumers also want to see other trust signals, especially those who have never purchased from you before. This means collecting reputable reviews, setting up a detailed FAQ page for customer support, and adding real photos of the products you sell.
Marketing and Ads
When it comes to marketing, it can be very tempting to spend a lot of money to attract new customers.
However, the best approach is to actually start small, test each route before figuring out where you see the most success, and then spend more in those areas.
Mindset and strategy
Dropshipping is not passive income.
I can’t emphasize this enough: Anyone who tells you it’s passive is either not doing dropshipping themselves, or if they are, it’s not successful!
You need to treat your dropshipping like a real business and focus on long-term strategies like focusing on customer experience.
Always learn
Finally, it’s important to know that once you’ve done all of the above, the work doesn’t stop there! Dropshipping and e-commerce as a whole are evolving rapidly, and staying up to date on the latest trends, success stories and products is essential for long-term success.
